Unless I'm just mistaken, it's been a pretty bad six month stretch for aviation disasters. Continental, Colgan, Turkish, and now Air France with fatalities. The Air France is again disturbing due to the high tech nature of the Airbus equipment.
I'll never speculate on this, but I do know that the area between Brazil and Senegal is immense. Here's a pic of the flight path from the BBC website. In the meantime, I'm sitting at O'Hare getting ready to ride Delta (ok, Skywest) out to Salt Lake and then on to Phoenix.
